The Forest Park Trojans took their 3 and 0 record into Norway (3-0) on Sept. 14 and left 3-1 after a humbling defeat by the score of 40 to 6.
After Norway struck first to go up 6-0 on a 12 yard pass, the Trojans were unable to counter until Matthew Showers forced a fumble and Forest Park recovered deep in Norway’s end of the field. When Grayson Sundell took the ball in from ten yards out, the score was locked at 6. The tie did not last long however as Norway countered with a touchdown and two point conversion to go into halftime up 14 to 6.
Playing against a powerful Norway team which had outscored their previous two opponents 86 to 12, the Trojans were challenged, but their fans were hopeful as the second half started.
Unfortunately, the second half belonged exclusively to Norway as the Knights scored 26 unanswered points, and neither the passing nor rushing game could get on track for Forest Park. The Trojans threw three interceptions on the night, converted only one of eight third downs and mustered only 70 yards rushing.
“Norway is a very good team,” stated Forest Park Coach Brian Fabbri. “They completely took us out of our offensive game plan and were the better team. We need to regroup and get back to the basics.”
When the history of Trojan football is written, this game will not appear in the highlights. However, as the loss was to a team Forest Park will not play in the playoffs, the fans can stay hopeful and look forward to the team playing Carney on Sept. 21.
