FP jr. high boys teams on streaks
CRYSTAL FALLS — Both Forest Park middle school boys basketball teams have put together winning streaks as their seasons head down the stretch.
The Trojans seventh graders extended their winning streak to three games with a 30-28 victory over Niagara on Nov. 25 at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium. FP used a 10-0 third quarter to overcome a six-point halftime deficit. Matthew Showers led the Trojans to the win with 14 points.
Previously, FP (4-2) knocked off West Iron County 33-14 on Nov. 18 in Iron River and rolled over Florence 53-23 on Nov. 14 in Crystal Falls. Gabe Quevedo and Nikolas Stephens scored 11 points each in the win over the Wykons, while Showers tallied 14 points and Kevin Giuliani added 13 in the victory over the Bobcats.
On Nov. 11, the Trojans fell to host Kingsford 39-20. Quevedo recorded eight points to pace FP.
The Trojans’ eighth-grade squad recorded its second straight win by edging visiting Niagara 33-29. Forest Park outscored the Badgers 13-6 in the fourth quarter to register the win. Gaven Rintala led the way with 11 points, while Felix Quevedo chipped in with nine and Drake Rouse added eight.
FP (2-4) also knocked off West Iron 42-24 in Iron River. Rouse topped the Trojans with 13 points and Quevedo contributed 10.
Prior to the two wins, FP dropped a 43-33 decision to Florence. Rintala led the way with a game-high 18, while Quevedo registered 11.
