FP’s Hedtke medals at D3 golf finals

CRYSTAL FALLS—Lee Hedtke’s earned medalist honors and helped Forest Park’s boys golf team take third place at the Division 3 U.P. Finals, held at Irish Oaks Golf Course in Gladstone on May 31.
    Meanwhile, a consistent Forest Park girls team claimed second in the girls Division 3 finals, also at Irish Oaks.
    Hedtke fired an 18-hole score of 80 to win medalist honors. Three golfers tied for runner-up honors with 82—Cedarville’s Trevor Kohlmann and Ontonagon’s Ed Polakowski and Henry Menigoz.
    Following Hedtke, the Trojans’ Riley Hendrickson and Evan Hedtke tied for 10th place on the leaderboard with 89. Tommy Peltoma fired a 97, and Bryce Smithson shot 109.
    In team standings, Ontonagon and Cedarville tied for the Division 3 championship with identical totals of 351. Forest Park was four strokes back at 355, and Carney-Nadeau was fourth at 370.
    ● In girls Division 3, Forest Park took second place with a score of 442, nine strokes behind U.P. champion Ontonagon’s 433. Big Bay de Noc was third at 479.
    Alina Soha led the Lady Trojans, taking ninth place overall with an 18-hole score of 107. Her teammates were right behind her and all finished in the top 20: Avery Sommers (11th) shot 110, Laina Toivonen (13th) had a 111, and Carolyn Bloomburg and Mindy McKinnon both fired 114, tying for 16th place.
    The best four individual scores count are used for the team score, and FP’s consistency got the girls to second.
    Chassell’s Marli Hietala shot an 88 for girls medalist honors. Lily Freel of Cedarville was second at 90, and North Central’s Jadie Linder was third at 95.
