The Lady Trojans (4-0) of Forest Park remained undefeated for the season in winning the Forest Park Volleyball Invite on Saturday, Sept. 16. The 10 team tournament saw stiff competition at many levels and followed the format of having two pools (pool A and pool B) with the winner and runner up in each pool participating in the semi-final followed by the championship.
Both Forest Park and West Iron (3-1) participated and both played exceptionally well in the pool play, qualifying to play in the semi-finals which narrowed the 10 team field to the four with the best records. West Iron handled their semi-final match against Carney splitting the first two sets and winning the tiebreaker, 25-16, 22-25 and 15-12. Forest Park defeated Stephenson in their two set semi-finals match, 25-23 and 25-21. In winning their semi-final matches the table was set for the Lady Trojans to take on the Lady Wykons in the finals.
The first set of the three set finals saw Forest Park win 25-20. West Iron stormed back in the second set 23-25 and the stage was set for a tiebreaker. The Lady Trojans squeaked out a high intensity well played 15 to 10 tiebreaker to place first in the tournament.
Ten different communities were represented at the tournament. To see both West Iron and Forest Park play in the finals is a testament to the high quality programs both schools have built over the last several years.
West Iron and Forest Park will meet in two regularly scheduled matches this season, the first on Sept. 26 at Forest Park and the second on Oct. 17 at West Iron.
