Carlson named to All-American team

HANCOCK—Former Forest Park Trojan Austin Carlson was named to the All-American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) All-American second team for his efforts during his senior season at Finlandia University.
Carlson averaged 11.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots per game while shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.  He led the ACAA in blocked shots, was third in field goal percentage and fourth in rebounding. Carlson scored in double figures in 12 games and registered double figures in rebounds in 14 games. He finished with 10 double-doubles.
Carlson set the single game record for blocks (10 vs. Bay College, Feb. 18) for Finlandia and was fifth in season rebounds (222). Career-wise, he was the sixth player in school history to record 500 rebounds (504) and finished third in blocked shots (101).
He also recorded the first triple-double in Finlandia history in his final game when he scored 19 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked 10 shots in the Lions’ 95-92 overtime loss to Bay College on Feb. 25 in Hancock.
“This was a nice recognition for Austin to cap off his career,” said head coach Mike O’Donnell of Carlson’s selection to the All-American team. “It really shows how much he developed as a player in his four years at Finlandia. He’s been a true iron man for us, having played in every game possible in his career. The other added bonus with Austin is he got it done in the classroom as well.”
