Busy week for net team

IRON RIVER—West Iron’s girls tennis team had a rush of matches in the final week before the start of school, but the Wykons were up for the challenge of playing four matches in two days, going 3-0-1.    Escanaba dealt them their first loss on Aug. 27.    Coach Joe Serbentas’ squad was also scheduled to face Iron Mountain and Munising at home on Aug. 29, after this edition’s early deadline. The Wykons’ season resumes Sept. 4 at Gladstone.    The week started Aug. 25 with matches at Ironwood and Hurley. West Iron stopped Ironwood 6-2 and defeated the Gremlins 4-1 against a limited lineup.  To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.
