CRYSTAL FALLS—Which is the real West Iron girls varsity team? The one that scrapped and fought and played on pretty even terms with Forest Park in the second half Jan. 9? Or the one that struggled mightily all through the first half?
The second half Wykons were only outscored 30-28, but the first half Wykons got blasted away 29-11. Final score: Lady Trojans 59, West Iron 39.
It was the only game last week for both teams: FP’s Jan. 5 visit to Superior Central got frozen out and will be rescheduled.
With its win, Forest Park goes to 5-2 overall and remains 3-1 in the Skyline Central Conference. West Iron enters this week at 0-7 overall and 0-3 in the West Pac Conference.
Forest Park dominated the first half against the Wykons and led 29-11 as the second half started. Midway through the third quarter, the lead was up to 42-17. That’s when momentum started changing.
It started modestly with a WIC free throw. Then Erin Angeli smacked in a 3-pointer from the top. The Wykons swiped FP’s inbounds pass, and Emmy Kinner scored. FP called time, down 42-23.
