CRYSTAL FALLS—David Anderson of Crystal Falls was one of 183 veterans who participated in the U.P. Veterans Appreciation Fishing Day on Sept. 9 in Marquette.
The fishing day was sponsored by the South Shore Fishing Association at Marquette’s upper and lower harbors. Veterans were matched up with boats and experienced captains and crews.
There were 63 boats that took fisherman onto Lake Superior for the day. At the end of fishing, successful fisherman held up their fish during a boat parade. Anderson, who caught a 25-pound lake trout, said the parade was long and the fish was heavy.
Anderson’s lake trout was 38 inches long and he is going to have it mounted. It was the largest fish caught during the event and he now holds the bragging rights for his catch.
