Snow drags race into Tip-Up-Town

CHANNING—The second leg of the Ojibwa Casino/MASTERS Racing Circuit Snow Drags will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, as a part of the annual Sagola Township Sportsmen Club’s Tip-Up-Town of the U.P. The races will take place behind the clubhouse on Eddy Lake.
     This is the second year that the Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers, commonly known as the MASTERS, have hosted a sanctioned snowmobile drag race. Snowmobiles will be racing side by side on a 500-foot groomed snow pack surface. Stock and modified snowmobiles will hit speeds close to 100 mph in 500 feet. The racers will be competing for cash and trophies.
     The majority of the class winners from the U.P. Championship Snow Drags are expected to compete at Saturday’s races. The races will start with test-n-tune at 9 a.m. Competition will begin after the mandatory drivers meeting at 9:45 a.m. At noon, the youngest 120 cc class racers will run. This is where children between the ages of 4 and 12 compete. The day will conclude with the Top Gun feature.
     Those interested in competing will need to register Friday night from 6-9 p.m. at the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club. There is no registration on the day of the race.
