Five waterfront resort communities - Petoskey, Alanson, Boyne City, Bay Harbor and Harbor Springs - along with Boyne Falls, make up the Petoskey Area.
Petoskey is a charming lakeside community known for its natural beauty, Victorian architecture, historic Gaslight Shopping District, breathtaking views of Little Traverse Bay, and of course, Petoskey stones. Downtown Petoskey is one of the most treasured downtowns in the United States. There are over 170 unique shops and fine restaurants in the famous Gaslight Shopping District. The Ernest Hemingway Cottage, also known as Windemere, was the boyhood summer home of author Ernest Hemingway, on Walloon Lake near Petosky.
