Musky club to hold annual expo

IRON MOUNTAIN— The Boundary Waters Musky Club will hold its annual expo from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Antoine Banquet Room at Recreation Lanes in Iron Mountain.
The event will feature prize raffles, tackle sales and swaps, and presentations by guest speakers. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.  
New this year, the club will hold a food drive for local pantries. For every canned good or $1 donation, attendees will be given a ticket for giveaways throughout the day.
This year’s speaker lineup includes:
Jim Pryal, (noon) guide, fly fishing for muskies, learn how to target the fish of 10,000 casts with a fly rod.
Michigan and Wisconsin DNR Fisheries (1 p.m.). Overview of area muskellunge management, future initiatives and the ongoing partnership between BWMC and the Departments of Natural Resources in Michigan and Wisconsin.  
Avery Smith (2 p.m.). Cabelas’s Pro Staff, Green Bay Muskies, tips and tactics for attacking one of the premier trophy muskellunge waters in the world.   
Steve Heiting (3 p.m.) featured speaker, “Game Plan for Pressured Muskies” is the title of Heiting’s seminar. One of the world’s most accomplished speakers on the topic of musky fishing, Heiting is the managing editor of Musky Hunter magazine and a frequent guest on “The Musky Hunter” TV show.  
He has written, edited or contributed to more than 20 books about musky fishing.  Heiting is also co-owner of the University of Esox Musky Schools.  
Each August, he serves as master of ceremonies for the National Championship Musky Open, the largest musky tournament on the planet. He is on the pro teams of Ranger, Mercury, St. Croix, Mepps, Shoeder’s Marina, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Stealth Tackle.  For more about Heiting, visit www.steveheiting.com or www.muskyhunter.com
An annual membership to the Boundary Waters Musky Club is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family. Dinner will be provided for members around 5 p.m. A cash bar will be open throughout the day. Lodging may be available at the Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn Express in Iron Mountain, which are adjacent to Recreation Lanes.
