Michigan DNR to hold forest management plan review
CRYSTAL FALLS — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will hold several public compartment review meetings across the U.P. concerning its forest management plan.
The meeting of the Crystal Falls Management Unit is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Oct. 17 at the Crystal Falls Field Office, located at 1420 U.S. 2 West. At the meeting, foresters will present their final decisions on management activities.
According to a press release from the DNR, plans prescribe burns, timber harvests and tree thinning to help keep Michigan’s four million acres of state forest land healthy and to provide wildlife habitat.
Plans for management activities are finalized two years in advance after public input is gathered in the regional management unit.
This fall, recommendations for 2021 were presented at open houses across northern Michigan.
