CRYSTAL FALLS — Winter is here and it’s time to think about how you can stay healthy and happy. Getting exercise and fresh air while enjoying the beauty of the Upper Peninsula is one of the best ways to take care of your body and mind. It’s important now more than ever.
Although Iron Endurance will not be able to hold its regular after-school ski and snowshoe clubs and events this winter, it is still its mission to encourage the community to get active, get outdoors, and get inspired.
“We at Iron Endurance are dedicated to promoting and providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate in lifelong health and wellness activities and endurance sports,” said Iron Endurance Executive Director Chandra Ziegler.
With that in mind, Iron Endurance will open its trailer to the community for equipment rental. The club has 20 sets of youth skis, poles, and boots that would fit preschool through middle school-aged kids.
A few of those might fit high school students or adults, up to size 7. The club also has 20 sets of snowshoes (they work with most adult boots).
“For a deposit of $20, you can enjoy silent sports all winter long,” Ziegler said. “When the equipment is returned in the same condition, you will get your $20 back.”
Equipment rental and distribution will take place on the following dates:
• Friday, Jan. 8 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
• Friday, Feb. 5 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Equipment return date will be Friday, March 19 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The trailer is in the Forest Park bus garage. No appointments are necessary. Those interested are asked to wait outside the bus garage - masked, and socially distanced. Call Ziegler at 906-284-0633 with questions.
“With the right clothes (lots of layers and warm socks), the right attitude, and some good equipment, winter is one of the best seasons to get outside and explore,” Ziegler said.
“The trails are calling.”
