Clean U.P. Initiative rolls out in September
IRON COUNTY—The roll out of the Clean U.P. Initiative to reduce the amount of plastic bag use in Iron County will be held during the month of September. The initiative from Rise UP Indivisible Iron County is sponsored by Aspirus Iron River Hospital and the Iron County Watershed Coalition in conjunction with Angeli Foods, Crystal Fresh Market and Iron River Family Foods
The initiative’s goal is to curb plastic waste, reduce the use of plastic bags and reduce plastic littering in Iron County.
“Iron County takes pride in its pristine lakes, waterways and mighty forests,” said Pam Kritz. “An abundance of wildlife, including deer, bear, fish and birds adds to the beauty of Iron County. Our outdoor recreation opportunities are a significant attraction to both local residents and tourists. No one wants our lakes, rivers and forests polluted by left-behind plastic bags.”
Kritz said the Clean U.P. Initiative seeks to reduce the amount of plastic bag use in Iron County by promoting reusable bags which will be available throughout the community.
“It is up to all of us to do what we can to keep Iron County and the Upper Peninsula the crown jewel of Michigan,” Kritz added. “We can reduce our use of plastic bags to keep Iron County clean by using reusable bags for shopping. Look for reusable bags with the Clean U.P. logo available at local merchants.
“Show your pride in keeping Iron County and the U.P. clean and beautiful for generations to come.”
