Big muskies caught in Phelps

PHELPS, Wis.— The Phelps Chamber has announced that the 38th annual Midwest Musky Classic was another success. This longstanding big fish tournament was held on Oct. 5- 7 in Phelps.
Musky fishing took place on North Twin Lake, South Twin Lake, Lac Vieux Desert and Big Sand Lake.
More than 135 participants fished the tournament in hopes of taking home some big prizes.
Over the weekend, 17 fish were caught and safely released on the four lakes, with only one caught on North Twin Lake. That lone musky from North Twin won its angler over $1,800 and a Lax Replica of the winning fish. Katie Praedel, from Milwaukee, placed first in the tournament with a 47 ¼-inch musky caught on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Praedel also took home Big Fish of the Day for Saturday and won the gun raffle.
Second prize, $800, and Big Fish of the Day Friday went to Jerome Hahn of Sherwood Wis. for his 47-inch musky caught on Lac Vieux Desert.
Brian Fons from East Troy, Wis., took third place with a 46 ½-inch fish caught on Friday on Big Sand Lake.
And Big Fish of the Day Sunday went to Wayne Stuckman from Cleveland Wis.
During the tournament luncheon on Sunday, 2017’s winner, Brandon Lewandowski of West Bend Wis. was presented with his 48-inch Lax Replica of the winning fish. Lewandowski also took home the rod/reel raffle prize amongst several others.
The 39th annual Midwest Musky Classic will take place on Oct. 4-6, 2019.
