Scare up some fun and crow about it
ALPHA—The Porter School Market Place is scaring up some fun during the first-ever Scarecrow Contest fundraiser.
The contest will kick-off on Sept. 20 when the community-made scarecrows will be placed on the lawn of the historic Porter School. Then the voting fundraiser will begin.
Decorate a scarecrow and enter it in one-of-four categories: adult individual or team, youth individual or team, business or student-classroom/youth organization. Each entry will be given a number.
Anyone can vote and vote often. A donation of 25 cents per voting slip will be one vote. One dollar gets four votes. The amounts were kept low so that kids can vote for their favorites also. The more votes received the more money for the winner and the community programs.
-For the student-classroom/youth organization, the winner will receive 100 percent of all vote-monies from that category.
In the youth individual or team category, the winner will receive 50 percent of the vote-monies and 50 percent will go toward the Alpha playground equipment fund.
-Voting in the adult individual or team category will help the Alpha Senior Citizen building fund. The winner will receive gift certificates to the Porter School Market Place. The monies will go to the senior center.
-The winner of the business category will receive gift certificates to the Old School Pizza and Café. The monies will go to the Porter School Library and Resource Center.
Voting slips will be available at the Porter School Market Place and the Alpha General Store from Sept. 21 through Oct. 18. Winners will be announced on Oct. 25 at the Porter School Scarecrow Faire.
