Rodeo week holds many area events
IRON RIVER—Every summer for the past 52 years, Iron River has hosted a championship rodeo. And while that event forms the backbone of the week’s festivities, many activities throughout the community add a special flavor to the extravaganza.
This year, the U.P. Championship Rodeo will be held on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20. But the fun begins on Wednesday with Family Fun Time from noon to 3 p.m. at the Windsor Center. There will be games, face painting, ACA jumps obstacle course, concessions, prizes and music in an event sponsored by the U.P. Rodeo and The Miners State Bank and hosted by Aspirus Hospital & Clinic.
More community events are on the docket throughout the weekend. On Thursday, there will be a meet-and-greet with Rodeo royalty from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Angeli Foods.
Cookies with the Queens will be held 11-11:30 a.m. at the West Iron District Library, followed by music in the library’s courtyard. Later that evening, the Iron County Chamber will host its Rodeo Kick-off Event 6-9 p.m. featuring a cornhole tournament, free mechanical bull rides, bonfire, live music, beer tent and delicious food.
On Friday, The Friends of the West Iron District Library will host its book and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Rodeo events kick into high gear.
On Saturday, the Iron River Senior Center will host a pancake breakfast 8-11:30 a.m. Family Foods will serve barbeque pork and grilled corn during the Wild West Parade.
The Classic Farm Machinery of Iron County Antique Tractor Show and Brat Feed will begin at 11 a.m. at the VFW in Iron River, all in anticipation of the second day of Rodeo performances.
