Maple syrup tours sweeten the day

It was a full day of springtime activities during Maple Syrup Fest on April 5 in Phelps, Wis. Visitors were able to take tours to local maple syrup operations like this sugar shack, where Dan Volkmann (center) explains the evaporating process he uses. Event-goers were treated to maple syrup demonstrations, taste testing, hands-on tree tapping, Northwoods arts and crafts and guide sugar bush tours. There were classes and presentations on maple syrup and beekeeping operations. The Maple Café served delicious foods while honey and maple syrup information and products were flowing at the Phelps School, where the event was held.
