IC Horse Committee to sponsor safety clinic

IRON RIVER—The Iron County Horse Committee is sponsoring a clinic regarding safety awareness when working with and around horses from 3-4 p.m. on May 3 at the Iron County Fair Grounds in the lower arena in front of the grandstand.
The clinic is a spectator-only event, no horses. It is a free orientation open to all interested youth and adults. Any donations will be used to support the building of bleachers at the upper horse arena.
The clinic will be presented by Rogene Hemeleski. For questions or to preregister, contact Nancy Johnson at 265-1217.
The clinic will cover a variety of safety concerns when working with horses, including approaching a horse, handling horses, leading, tying, saddling and bridling, as well as all aspects of riding a horse.
Hemeleski is a member of the IC Horse Committee and a veteran horsewoman with a great deal of expertise to share.
The Iron County Horse Committee is in the process of renovations to the upper horse arena at the fairgrounds. New fence panels have been purchased and the arena surface is currently being redone. When that phase of the restoration is completed, the committee will be working on construction or purchase of spectator bleachers for the arena.
Anyone interested in supporting this project can contact Johnson at 265-1217.
