Hilberg wins VFW Auxiliary art contest

CRYSTAL FALLS—The VFW Auxiliary Post No. 2891 has announced that Anna Hilberg, a senior at Forest Park High School, is the local first-place winner of the VFW’s 2017-2018 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest.
Hilberg, who was sponsored by VFW Post No. 2891 and its Auxiliary, created her chalk 18-inch by 24-inch drawing as an independent study.
Each entry was judged on the originality of concept, presentation and patriotism expressed; the content on how it relates to patriotism and clarity of ideas; the design technique; total impact of work; and uniqueness. Also, on an explanation of patriotism expressed in the art.
Each year, more than 3,500 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest began in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth.
Hilberg’s winning artwork was sent to the state VFW department for judging in the state contest. State winners will compete at the national level at the National VFW Convention in July for individual awards ranging from $500 to $10,000.
