Get ready for sled dog races and more at LOL’s Winter Festival

LAND O’ LAKES, Wis.— The Three Bear Sled Dog Race brings the northwoods tradition of sled dog racing to Land O’ Lakes on Feb. 2-3. It is known as one of the premier spectator races in the northern Midwest and is a favorite destination for mushers alike. Racing in northern Wisconsin, the Three Bear offers beautiful trails in the popular open class as well as six dog, four dog, juniors and skijoring.
    Area civic groups join in the festivities by offering family games, a bonfire, ice skating, food and a craft show.
    Sled dog racing will begin on the morning of Feb. 2, during the Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games.
    Join the children’s mutt race where youth can bring their own dog or one can be provided.
    On Saturday, the Winter Festival Bake and Craft Sale will take place at the elementary school from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a soup and sandwich kitchen at the event.
    Free ice skating will take place at the Snowflake Ice Skating Rink in downtown Land O’ Lakes, and get ready to be amused during the Barkalounger Race.
    The Conover Fire and Rescue’s Cornhole Tourney is to be held at the Conover Community Center gym on Feb. 2. The popular bag toss game will be played with teams paired from random draws with games beginning at noon. Players can register to join in the fun for a $25 donation. Food and beverages will be available on site.  
    The annual Mushers Ball will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Gateway Lodge with music by “Sons of Legend.”
    On Sunday, racing continues. Three Bear Sled Dog organization is finalizing plans and preparing for another exciting winter event.
    This is a great way to see the sport of sled dog racing first hand while enjoying an entire weekend of activities, said organizers.
