Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp to celebrate quilters, crafters

CRYSTAL FALLS—Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp will celebrate the season and the talents of area quilters and crafters on Saturday, Oct. 6 at its fall fest.
Festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a hearty buffet brunch served in the camp dining hall, a country market of home-baked breads and pies and quilt viewing in the chapel/auditorium.
The Quilt and Artwork Auction begins at 11 a.m. with Pastor Corrine Parson of Iron Mountain serving as auctioneer. Among the auction items are 80 juried quilts of various sizes, wall hangings, table runners and hand-loomed rugs. A variety of other handcrafted items, including autumn and Christmas decorations, may be purchased separately or won through a “draffle” format.
A group of dedicated quilters, called “Sisters of the Cloth,” meet at Fortune Lake Camp throughout the year to work on projects for the auction. Individual artists and quilting groups from across the U.P. and Northeast Wisconsin also contribute their creations.
This 22nd annual fundraiser benefits Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp, a camping and retreat facility owned by the 82 congregations of the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and several other Lutheran churches.
