Former IC Reporter publisher Clark to retire
PIERRE, S.D. — Former Iron River Reporter publisher John Clark is retiring after 46 years in the newspaper business.
Clark, presently the publisher of the Capital Journal in Pierre, S.D., began his career with the Northland Publishers in Iron River, where he worked for 18 years.
While with the Reporter, Clark hired Arlene Shovald as the paper’s first female editor and helped usher the transition to printing offset at Wisconsin Michigan Publishers in Eagle River.
Clark was also the publisher of the Lakeshore Chronicle in Manitowoc, Wis., the Stevens Point Journal and group publisher of the Journal and the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune. He also was publisher of newspapers in Mississippi and Ohio.
Clark and his wife Krista plan to move back to the Midwest following his retirement on Jan. 31.
