Crystal Christmas festivities ring in the season

The holiday season opened in Crystal Falls with performances at the Crystal Theatre on Dec. 3 with local talent during “A Crystal Christmas.” There was singing and bell ringing and dancing. Group performers included the children’s choirs from United Lutheran Church and United Methodist Church, the Crystal Falls Musicale, Community Bell Choir, Inclusions Dance and Gymnastics, Forest Park Dance Team and the Snow Shovel Ensemble. Also sharing their talents were Erika Lindwall and Abby Miller, Mike Wickerstrom and Linda Hurrell, Jim Detlaff, the Sandstroms, Paul Sundquist, Benjamin Garcia and Alina Soha. As the snow fell and another week passed, a Crystal Christmas continued as a hometown event on Dec. 9. There was a soup luncheon at the Contemporary Center, crafts at the library, shopping specials and Santa arrived at the courthouse in his sleigh. Superior Avenue was lit up during the evening for the first-ever Ice Shack Parade. Fishermen waiting for the ice to thicken, floated their shanties in downtown Crystal Falls in a colorful and humorous display.
