Community gears up for Christmas in Lights
IRON RIVER —The 13th annual Christmas in Lights celebration will be held on Dec. 1.
The ever-popular lighted parade will take place at 6 p.m., and any group is welcome to participate with a lighted float. This year’s theme is “A Caroling Christmas,” and groups are encouraged to decorate their floats around a favorite Christmas carol or song.
There is no fee to enter the parade and cash prizes are awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners. Pre-registration is appreciated and can be done by contacting the Iron County Chamber office at 265-3822.
Following the lighted parade will be a fireworks show courtesy of the West Iron County Fire Department as well as a warm bonfire, hot cocoa and free cookies at the Klint Safford Memorial RV Park. To fit the theme of this year’s celebration, the Iron County Economic Chamber Alliance will host a coin drive that will benefit the West End Players. The West End Players, a theatre troupe of both students and adults, perform two musical productions per year. This season they will present West Side Story on Dec. 7, 8 and 9. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber office, online or at the door.
“Not only do we have a ton of fun at West End Players, but students also learn skills in art, music, and public speaking,” said Adam Holroyd, West End Player board president. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Alliance and the community of Iron County to reach our goal of purchasing high quality vocal mics and updated stage lighting that will not only increase the quality of our productions, but also the professionalism of all programing in the Windsor Auditorium.”
Save your loose change and look for coin collection stations at the Chamber Alliance office and Contrast Coffee from Nov. 1 through the Christmas in Lights parade on Dec. 1. Learn more about the coin drive and see a full schedule of Christmas in Lights events at iron.org/christmasinlights.
Throughout the celebration, the public can also enjoy the Christmas in Lights Arts and Craft Show at the Windsor Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and take some time to visit with Santa and shop the bake sale at the West Iron District Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library also hosts a chili feed before the parade from 4-6 p.m.
Christmas in Lights is organized by the Iron County Economic Chamber Alliance in collaboration with the Iron River Downtown Development Authority.
