Annual IR car show this Sunday

IRON RIVER—For the 42nd consecutive year, Iron County car lovers will celebrate Father’s Day by gathering at the Iron County Fairgrounds June 16 for the annual Antique and Classic Car Show.
The show takes place on the upper level of the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s the same time as the 11th annual Arts and Crafts Show, taking place nearby.
The show is open to everybody, and there is no admission fee.
This year’s events are presented by the Iron County Pullers Association, in memory of Alan “Al” Clements, who served as the Pullers Association president for more than eight years.
The weekend’s first event is the annual car parade, taking place Saturday, June 15, featuring many of the antique and classic cars that will take part in Sunday’s car show.
Participants will be meeting at 1 p.m. at the Riverside Plaza parking lot. The parade starts at 2 and travels through downtown Iron River, Stambaugh and Caspian before ending up back at Riverside Plaza.
The car show begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, with registration from 9 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques will be presented to the first 75 cars registered for the show. For more information, call 906-284-0077.
Also taking part in the car show is the Classic Farm Machinery Club of Iron County, which will display a variety of antique farming and industrial machinery.
A wide variety of cars (and trucks) will be on display during the car show. Some are stock vehicles, while others have been restored and maybe customized by their owners.
Take your time. There’s no need to rush. Owners of the vehicles love to talk about them, where they came from and how they were restored, with scrapbooks of photos detailing the process.
At 3 p.m., trophies are presented to the first and second place winners in each of 21 classes. Awards include the people’s choice award, the spectators’ choice award and the Best of Show award, as selected by show organizers.
Nearby, the 11th annual arts and crafts show will feature art, craft, jewelry, antique and flea market items. For more information about display space at the arts and crafts show, call 906-367-2206.
Sponsors of the annual show are Krist Oil Co., StateLine Chevrolet, M&M Clements Trucking, Kurtz Diesel, Iron Inn Motel, Michigan-Wisconsin Spring & Brake, Riverside Plaza Merchants, Green Acres Marketing, Mr. T’s Family Restaurant and the Iron County Fair Association, in memory of Al Clements.
