Reader upset with Forest Service
To the editor:
The road system to our Ottawa National Forest should allow residents in the area and visitors access to our national forests. Over a short period of time, the Forest Service has posted every main forestry road, and most two track roads have become inaccessible to ATV traffic. Over the past few years, I could not help noticing the poor logging tactics throughout Iron County. We are all concerned with the impact to our environment, but the hack-and-slash, pungi-sticks, stumps and brush left behind makes it impossible to even walk in our national forest. Every ATV in the Upper Peninsula could not have the impact caused by your clear-cutting operations.
