CRYSTAL FALLS - Crystal Theatre invites area residents to come out of the cold Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. to experience a dramatic format that may be new to local audiences:  readers’ theatre.

Without scenery or costumes, actors affiliated with West End Players will portray characters solely by reading lines from a printed script of a mystery called The Ten Tombs of Dr. Styles by Frank Semerano. The cast of readers includes Abby and Benjamin Garcia, Charlotte Strom, Joshua Monsoon, Lilianna Micola, Linda Povich Hauser, Matthew Mcpherson, Meg Darrell and Melissa Rodriguez.

In the play, Horton Malden is a student of ancient Egypt who seeks to unravel the bizarre circumstances of the death of his former instructor, Dr. Winston Styles, who was searching for the treasure of the Ten Tombs. Four curious strangers, who all had ties to the late doctor, show up at his residence atop an isolated mountain in Egypt. The strangers complicate Horton’s attempts to solve the riddle of the Ten Tombs while keeping Penny, his betrothed, safe from succumbing to a fate that befalls each stranger.

“Be brave and try something new in this new year,” Crystal Theatre’s Managing Director Kristin Underhill says. “Readers’ theatre is like listening to a podcast or the famous 1938 radio broadcast of War of the Worlds,” Underhill explains. “And who doesn’t enjoy listening to a mystery on a chilly night in January?”

Admission is by donation.
