Vandals damage Ice Lake Park

IRON RIVER—Ice Lake Park sustained damage over the weekend of Aug. 16 and 17, the Iron River City Council was told during its meeting Aug. 20.    City Manager Perry Franzoi said restroom doors were ripped off, partitions were damaged, picnic tables were dumped into the lake, and the dock was broken into four sections.    The park was cleaned up afterward, but the dock was taken out of the lake and will not be put back in for the remainder of the season.    “The dock can be repaired, but given that we typically take it out after Labor Day weekend, I don’t want to spend the money to hurry up and fix it and put it back in and take it out again,” Franzoi said.    He went on to mention that the city will seek estimates on repairing the damage and will turn that information in to its insurance company.    Councilman Rick Commenator brought up the idea of posting a reward  To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.
