Local fisherman’s body found in Bay of Green Bay
OCONTO, Wis.—The body of an Iron River fisherman who had been missing since his boat capsized in the Menominee River on April 29 was found in the Bay of Green Bay on May 29.
Benjamin J. Tart, 58, had been presumed drowned by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department after the boat he and another man were fishing from capsized in the swollen rivers adjacent to Stephenson Island on the Wisconsin side of the river.
According to a press release from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in reporting a body located by a fisherman in the Bay of Green Bay, approximately 3.1 miles southeast of Harbor Road near the city of Oconto. The description of the deceased male was consistent with that of the missing person identified by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office as Tart. A recovery effort was conducted by the Oconto Fire/Rescue and Oconto County Sheriff’s Office personnel. The deceased male was positively identified as Tart by the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted.
