Iron River selected as Main Street community
IRON RIVER—The city of Iron River, along with 11 other Michigan communities, has been selected to take part in the Michigan Main Street Associate Level program.
The announcement was made in a press release from Ron Basso, Iron River Downtown Development Authority attorney.
The communities will receive training over the next year on the basics of the Main Street Four-Point Approach, including organization, promotion, economic restructuring and design. The training will be conducted by staff from the Michigan Main Street Center at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and select and master level Main Street communities.
Iron River’s DDA submitted a lengthy application, along with numerous photographs of the downtown area. The DDA also solicited and received resolutions of support from the city of Iron River, the Iron County Economic Development Corporation, the Iron County Chamber of Commerce, the Iron County Historical and Museum Society, the West Iron District Library, the Windsor Center and St. Agnes Church.
“We are so grateful for the support we received,” said Iron River Mayor Terry Tarsi. “We are looking forward to working with our community to promote our area and to attract businesses here as well.”
