Iron River man seriously burned in Stambaugh Township fire
Fire departments from West Iron, Crystal Falls, Caspian-Gaastra and Long Lake battled a structure fire on Little Deer Road in Stambaugh Township on Jan. 29. The occupant of the structure was seriously burned in the fire, according to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. The incident and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
CRYSTAL FALLS—A 39-year-old Iron River man was seriously burned in a structure fire in Stambaugh Township on Jan. 29.
According to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the fire at 105 Little Deer Rd. at approximately 12:23 p.m. When fire and law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene, the residence was fully engulfed by the fire. A witness reported that the lone occupant of the residence, identified as Jonathan Zawislak, had been observed exiting the burning residence but had been seriously burned.
Zawislak was transported to Aspirus Iron River Hospital by Aspirus Medivac and later transferred to the Duluth Burn Unit for treatment of his injuries.
The West Iron Fire Department was assisted by Crystal Falls, Caspian-Gaastra and Long Lake fire departments. Deputies were also assisted by the Iron River Police Department and Iron County Central Dispatch. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal was also contacted for assistance. The incident and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
