IR man arrested for hit-and-run
IRON MOUNTAIN/CRYSTAL FALLS—An Iron River man was arrested after a vehicle-pedestrian accident on U.S. 2 in Iron River in the early morning hours of Dec. 20.
Christopher James Nordang, 26, was charged with operating while intoxicated (a 93-day misdemeanor) and failure to stop at the scene of a personal injury accident (a one-year misdemeanor).
Nordang was also given a second offender notice, having previously been convicted of operating while impaired in 2015. The Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post reported troopers stopped a vehicle for erratic driving at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Dec. 20. During the stop, Iron County Dispatch informed the troopers that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at U.S. 2 and Ninth Street, according to a press release from the MSP and the complaint. The vehicle matched the description of the vehicle that had struck the 40-year old female pedestrian. The woman was transported to Aspirus Iron River Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department and Aspirus ambulance assisted at the scene.
Nordang is free on a personal recognizance bond with conditions. His next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.
