Giuliani new FP principal
CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s School Board took another big step in realigning its administrator lineup this month when it appointed Jackie Giuliani as pre K-12 principal (all grades) for the 2019-20 school year.
The action was taken during a special meeting on July 1.
The board had voted in May to eliminate the sixth- through 12th-grade principal position, with Lisa Olson becoming athletic director and Community Schools director. At another special meeting July 8, the board voted to remove elementary school principal from Superintendent Becky Waters’ duties.
Waters plans to retire after the 2019-20 school year, and Giuliani will be working with her until then.
As part of the changes, Giuliani is relinquishing her teaching, senior class advisor and girls basketball coaching positions. During the board’s July 22 regular meeting, the board appointed junior varsity coach Kim Bjork to the girls varsity job and posted the JV position.
Giuliani, the former Jackie Stoor, is a 1998 graduate of Forest Park. “I bleed Forest Park red,” she said in an interview last week. “I want our school to be the best it can be.
“So when the position became open, I knew I wanted somebody who loves Forest Park—and I felt that was me.”
All the same, it’s a bittersweet moment—she regrets leaving the kindergarten students and her other roles as coach and advisor. “That was a passion of mine, and I loved the relationships I was able to build through coaching.
“However, I look forward to the new relationships I going to have as principal.”
Giuliani attended Michigan State University, earning a degree in early childhood and elementary education. After teaching in Houghton for one year, she joined the Forest Park teaching staff in 2004. Now she becomes principal.
She earned her master’s in administration at Northern Michigan. “I always envisioned myself becoming an administrator at some point in my career—I wasn’t sure when.”
