FP approves junior trip plan

CRYSTAL FALLS—Plans for the annual junior class trip to Michigan colleges were revealed during the Forest Park School Board’s regular monthly meeting Dec. 17.
Superintendent Becky Waters did the revealing because guidance counselor Harold Payne was running the clock at a junior high basketball game on an especially busy December evening at the Forest Park campus. Varsity and junior varsity boys basketball games were also taking place.
The college tour for Forest Park juniors, though, is familiar turf for board members. Waters said this tour will take place March 25 to 27. “That’s what worked out best in the coordination of the schools, ACT testing and colleges.”
The tour is deliberately scheduled on the same dates as the senior class trip. The juniors will return to school in time for the start of the spring break.
The trip allows students to get a first-hand look at five campuses around the state. Forest Park students will be making the tour with North Dickinson students.
Waters said 25 to 27 Forest Park students are expected to make the tour, along with 12 from North Dickinson. Chaperones will come from both schools.
All juniors with a 2.0 or better grade point average and who are in good standing with no academic, disciplinary or attendance issues are eligible to make the trip.
They will visit five universities: Lake Superior State, Ferris State, Michigan State, Central Michigan and Grand Valley State. “Those are the colleges the kids have been most interested in, Waters said. The visits to Michigan State and Central Michigan have not been finalized.
