CRYSTAL FALLS – The Forest Park School Board of Education appointed former superintendent Becky Waters as superintendent designee at its March 18 regular meeting.

Waters was appointed, “as the superintendent’s designee, if necessary, to hear a possible pending grievance,” per the motion’s language. It was approved unanimously.

Current Superintendent Christy Larson, who replaced Waters in 2020, is leaving the district for a position in Florence, Wisconsin.

The board has enlisted help from the Michigan Association of School Boards in its search for a permanent new superintendent. The school is currently seeking anonymous feedback on the matter via a survey available on its website at fptrojans.org/apps/news.
The following items were also addressed at the March 18 meeting of the Forest Park School Board:

• Eleven students from the Forest Park Business Professionals of America team qualified for the National Leadership Conference on May 10 in Chicago. Students will stay for four nights and also need transportation. The team will be conducting fundraising activities to help pay for the trip.
• Larson noted the need for an additional staffer in special education due to increasing numbers in the program: “We’ve seen a rise in our special education numbers, but also we’ve seen a rise in the intensity of what some of these students are needing,” she said.
The board voted to post a position, as well as to re-post a full-time position for an elementary teacher that is currently being filled by a substitute.
• Forest Park Hall of Fame applications are due May 1.
• The board approved the following fall coaching positions: Contracts for Brian Fabbri, head football coach; Gerard Valesano, assistant football coach; Bobbie Anderson, head volleyball coach; and Lindsey Anderson, assistant volleyball coach, were retained and renewed unanimously by the board. Assistant football coach Chris Nocerini was retained on a 6-1 vote, with trustee Troy Margoni dissenting. There was also discussion on improving the thoroughness of the evaluation process and how it is reported back to the board.

The Forest Park School Board of Education meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The next meeting is April 22. More information is available at fptrojans.org.
