Final Four floor should have many links here

MASTODON TWP.—When the NCAA men’s Division 1 basketball championship is decided in Indianapolis on April 6, there will be Iron County connections all over the place.
Board Member Jason Gasperich talked about some of them during the Forest Park School Board regular meeting Nov. 24, held at the Mastodon Township Hall here.
First, the game will played on wood that was harvested in September from the Forest Park school forest north of Amasa. The logs were taken to Florence Hardwoods in Florence, where they were cut and dried.
“It will be starting very soon,” Gasperich told the board. “Within the next two weeks. It’s just waiting on approval of a couple of artwork-related items and a few related specifics.”
Board Member Don Peterson said the lumber, harvested in late September, was sawed two weeks ago and is drying now before it goes to the Connor Sports Flooring plant south of Amasa, where the floor will be built.
Now it also appears that Iron County will have a major presence under the floor as well as the floor itself.
One manufactured part that goes into the subfloor, Gasperich said, is made in Crystal Falls by Warren Maki. “He makes them for us,” Gasperich said. “He has for years. It’s another opportunity to involve a local business in this project.”
Board Member Bill St. John remembered that Maki was a former school board president, “So I’m very glad he is still working with us.”
Another part of the subfloor involves Forest Park, several schools in the Indianapolis area and Coca-Cola. The schools will be collecting recyclable material (No. 5 plastic) that will be incorporated into the subfloor of the men’s Final Four floor.
