Dates set for upcoming cases

CRYSTAL FALLS—A pair of criminal cases moved forward after hearings in Iron County Trial Court on April 9 and April 16.
    The trial dates for an Iron River man and an Iron River woman accused of second degree child abuse have been set for Aug. 28-31. Jesse James Winkler, 22, and Jennifer Ann Marie Winkler, 26, will also have supplemental pretrial hearings on July 23. The child abuse charge is a 10-year felony.
    Jesse Winkler has also been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, also a 10-year felony.
    Also during a preliminary hearing on April 9, Earl Ralph Otchingwanigan, 81, of Crystal Falls was bound over to circuit court after Judge C. Joseph Schwedler found probable cause in six charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct.
    Otchingwanigan is accused of engaging in criminal sexual conduct from 2000-07 with a boy, who according to the felony complaint, was “under the age of 13 or at least 13 and less than 16” and that the defendant and the victim were members of the same household
    The crimes are felonies, each with a maximum sentence of life in prison.
    Additional charges may be added in the case. Arraignment in circuit court is scheduled for April 30.
