Crystal ShinDig slated for June 16

CRYSTAL FALLS—The Crystal Falls Business Association will host the Crystal ShinDig on June 16 in downtown Crystal Falls. Many events are planned throughout the day, and it’s also a good time to shop in the many locally-owned and locally-operated stores in Crystal Falls.
The Crystal ShinDig begins at 9 a.m. with the Art and Craft Fair and Car Show on the grounds of the Iron County Courthouse. Artisans and vendors from the U.P. and northern Wisconsin will display their unique items for sale. And for those who like looking at beautiful old cars or cool hot rods, the cars will be on display on the street directly in front of the courthouse. Both shows will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Seth Waters will also be on hand as the onsite DJ from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Anyone interested in being a part of the Art and Craft Fair can download an application on the Crystal Falls Business Association website at or call Alisa Nelson at 906-284-9272 to have the forms mailed. Car Show info is also on the website, or those interested can contact Bob Kenney at 875-6495.
At 10, the Crystal ShinDig continues with a lawnmower, golf cart and tractor parade on Superior Avenue. Anyone can enter this unique parade, which will begin in front to the Crystal Falls City Hall on Superior and Fourth Street and continue down Superior Avenue to First Street. This parade is open to everyone who has an imagination. No pre-registration is required. For more information about the parade, contact Dave Ponchaud at 906-874-1131
For those water-loving people, a kayak race will be held on the Paint River starting at 11:30 a.m. There is a $10 entry fee. This event is for single kayaks only and begins near the power dam and ends at the Superior Avenue bridge. There will be three group divisions: youth ages 14-18, women and men.  Prizes will be given to the winners of each age group. For more information, check
“Jake and The Fireside Band” will play live music from 3:30-7:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind Crystal Theatre. Bring your own lawn chair and beverages.
The ShinDig ends at 9:30 p.m. with a fireworks display on the river boardwalk.
