Crystal Falls OKs new trash pact

CRYSTAL FALLS—The Crystal Falls City Council voted to approve a contract with Waste Management for the city’s trash and recycling needs at its monthly meeting on Aug. 13.
Under the terms of the contract, each 20-gallon bag would cost $2.35, a 30-gallon bag will cost $3.35, garbage carts will cost $12.25 per cart per month, and recycling carts will come in at $2.50 per month including curbside service. No resident will be forced to sign up for bags or recycling, and customers can buy bags as they go. The city will also be able to choose bag colors and a logo.
Garbage and recycling carts will be billed on the residents’ utility bill. The contract is for seven years and has built into it a 3 percent annual “cost of living” increase. Council member Adam Schiavo was the lone dissenter.
