Court finds Nielsen guilty, mentally ill
CRYSTAL FALLS—An Iron River man accused of making terrorist threats was found guilty but mentally ill in Iron County Trial Court on Jan. 5.
Anthony Lee Nielsen, 37, was arrested on Aug. 12 and accused of threatening to blow up a public building and committing a violent act upon a school. Nielsen initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on Dec. 15 but accepted a plea agreement with prosecution before his trial date, which was set for Jan. 21.
Nielsen pleaded no contest to one felony count of false report or threat of bomb or harmful device. Sentencing will take place Feb. 9. Because of his habitual offender status, Nielsen faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison.
