CRYSTAL FALLS – The Crystal Falls City Council voted unanimously to change zoning for six building lots belonging to the Crystal View Golf Course along Wagner St. and Garfield Ave. The new resolution will allow for buildings 20 feet away from the road instead of the previous 40 feet.

“Lots across the street are already Residential 2 [the new proposed zoning classification] so it’s not really changing any of the neighborhood structure,” said City Attorney Daryl Waters at the Jan. 8 city council meeting. “It’s just making those lots more productive and useful.”

Waters confirmed that other lots in the area and across the street fall under the same 20-foot minimum zoning restrictions as the updated lots.

Additionally, it was stated at the meeting by City Manager Gerard Valesano that “The City’s wastewater project is nearing completion. Installation parts for the backup generator have been on hold longer than expected.”
Valesano went on to state that it is recommended that the backup generator be complete before the new lagoon system is put to use. He said he was hopeful that the parts will be in within the next week or two.

With that, it seems the City’s long-running Wastewater project will soon be coming to a close.

The following matters were also discussed by the City Council at its January meeting:

• The Council approved another installment in a long line of payments to companies for their work with the wastewater project totaling $154,404.50.

• A meeting was set for the Recreation Committee to discuss potential upgrades to the Runkle Lake Campground.

The Crystal Falls City Council meets on the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. in the City Hall. More information is available at crystalfalls.org
