Cava arraigned on multiple charges
CRYSTAL FALLS—A Bates Township man was arraigned on several drug charges in Iron County Trial Court on Sept. 25.
Sheldon Shawn-Douglas Cava, 36, was charged with three counts of delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine (a 20-year felony), one count of delivery of heroin less than 50 grams (a 20-year felony), one count of possession of heroin less than 25 grams (a four-year felony) and one count of possession of methamphetamine (a 10-year felony).
The charges stem from incidents on Aug. 23 and Sept. 18.
The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team reported that the investigation into the delivery of heroin and methamphetamine in Iron River had been ongoing the past several months.
Cava is incarcerated in the Iron County Correctional Facility on a $25,000 cash bond. At his arraignment, Cava asked for his bond to be reduced, but District Court Judge Julie LaCost, who presided over the hearing in place of Iron County Judge C. Joseph Schwedler, denied the request, stating the seriousness of the allegations.
A probable cause conference in the matter has been scheduled for Oct. 9. A preliminary examination is set for Oct. 16.
