131st annual Iron County Fair set to begin

IRON RIVER – The 131st annual Iron County Fair will run from Aug. 9-13 at the Iron County Fairgrounds. The fun begins on Wednesday, Aug. 9, with entry day which runs from noon to 7 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 10, is open class exhibit judging which takes place all day. There will also be a variety ofvendors selling their products for the Arts and Craft sale, as well as live music, from Thursday-Saturday. Senior Day is Thursday with a free lunch held for seniors at noon in the bandstand area. The antique farm equipment display will be available to view all four days of the fair, and the ever-popular carnival rides will be going strong.
Thursday evening kicks off with the horse fun night in the horse arena at 4 p.m. The Miss Iron County speeches will be given in the bandstand area at 4:30 p.m. The rotunda will be the place to be with the kid’s coin scramble at 6 p.m., followed by Friend of the Fair Award recipient announced at 6:30 p.m., and the Miss Iron County Queen will be revealed at 7 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 11, the open class judging continues along with livestock judging which starts at 9 a.m. The market livestock judging is in the rotunda beginning at 1 p.m. Registration for the mud bogs is from 2-4:30 p.m. at the mud pit, with the mud bogs to begin at 5 p.m. The market livestock auction will be in the rotunda at 6 p.m. The last event for Friday night is the cornhole tournament. Registration is in the grandstand area from 6-7 p.m. with the tournament starting at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 12, is down on the farm day in the rotunda beginning at 11 a.m. The horse arena will be busy with horse speed events at 9 a.m. The kiddie demolition derby is at 2 p.m. in the rotunda. The main attraction, The Demolition derby, will take place at the grandstands at 6 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 13, the last day of the fair, starts with the loggers/farmers breakfast in the bandstand at 7 am. The open class horse show takes place in the horse arena at 9 a.m. The rotunda will host rabbit showmanship at 10 a.m. The backseat driver and tricycle races will take place in the rotunda at 1 p.m. The last event of the season is the raffle drawing in the grandstand at 3 p.m. The exhibits and livestock are released at 5 p.m., which signals the end of the fair for another year.
