IRON RIVER — Five players from the West Iron County girls tennis team were selected to the Division 2 all-U.P. squad in recent voting of coaches.
In singles, both Livea Mazurek and Kali Applin were picked to the first team, while Aurora Dahl was given honorable mention. Mazurek, a senior, played No. 1 singles, while Applin (junior) filled the No. 2 singles spot and Dahl (junior) played No. 3 singles.
Applin and Dahl captured championships in their flights at the U.P. Division 2 tournament, which was won by West Iron. Mazurek finished runner-up at the top singles flight.
West Iron’s top doubles team – senior Tori Bociek and junior Madison Berutti – were selected to the first team as well. The duo took home the U.P. championship as well.
Claire Mongrain of Iron Mountain was chosen as Division 2 player of the year, while Mountaineer coach Marcus Celello was named coach of the year.
