CRYSTAL FALLS - Crystal Theatre celebrates the Year of the Dragon with the 2020 American fantasy action film Mulan Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Mulan is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated film based on a Chinese folklore story.

The film stars Yifei Liu as Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior. The young woman masquerades as a man to take her ailing father’s place when he is called up to fight the Rouran army in Imperial China.

Filmed in New Zealand and China during the fall of 2018, the production was the subject of several controversies and was criticized for casting mainly actors of non-Chinese descent. It was originally scheduled to be released in March of 2020, but was delayed for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Crystal Theatre’s managing director Kristin Underhill says, “ the dragon symbolizes power, strength and good fortune. It’s also the coolest of all the mythical creatures, so we’re delighted that the fire-breathing creature is back in our lives once again!”

Admission to the movie is by donation.
