CRYSTAL FALLS — On Sept. 18, the Forest Park School District reported that a staff member had tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member was not identified.
Superintendent Christy Larson posted a letter to FP families on Sept. 18. In it, she said the staff member had not been in school since Sept.11 due to a family emergency and that the person’s symptoms did not begin until Sept. 15.
“So according to the health department, no other staff members or students were exposed to this staff member during the time when considered contagious,” Larson wrote.
She continued:
“The Forest Park School District will work with the (DIDHD) while following all Return to School Safe Plan protocols for any COVID-19 related symptoms or illness. We will continue to keep you informed as we work to provide the safest learning environment possible for our students, families, and staff.
“I cannot stress enough how proud I am of our students and staff over the past four weeks,” she continued. “Our students and staff have been following the safety guidelines as outlined in our Return to School Safe Plan. Occasionally they need to be reminded of social distancing, but all of our students are wearing their masks properly and at the designated times as outlined in our plan. I truly could not be more proud of them in this regard. This has helped to keep our students and school safe, and this will help us keep our doors open for face-to-face learning. Keep up the good work.”
According to the DIDHD, Iron County had 62 confirmed cases and two probable cases as of Sept. 18, a nearly 170 percent increase since mid-August. On Aug.  20, the DIDHD reported 23 total cases in Iron County, including one death.
