Veteran food cards available

IRON RIVER — Veterans Community Action Teams have begun to roll out a veteran food card program, running through Friday, Feb. 12.
Below is the eligibility criteria and instructions for the food card:
What is available?
• A limited quantity of $50 food cards (upon completion of a needs assessment)
• Limit one per eligible applicant while supplies last or until Feb. 12, 2021
 Who can apply? – All applicants must
A. Provide documentation showing proof of military service
B. Identify food as a need due to financial hardship
• Qualifying individuals:
A. Anyone who has served at least one day in any branch of the military (includes National Guard or Reserves) or
B. Household family members and surviving spouses of a veteran
C. Caregivers of a veteran
D. Service providers may apply on behalf of a veteran they are assisting who is unable to apply
 How do I apply?
• Applicants will need to provide proof of military service and financial hardship to their local Veteran Service Officer who can verify their status and need.
 • Applicants then dial 2-1-1 Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST to request a veteran food assistance gift card and complete the application/needs assessment form to identify and receive appropriate referrals to address current/anticipated needs.
Cards will only be distributed once military service is confirmed. Iron County will have 18 cards available. When the county limit is reached, additional requesters can be added to a waitlist until the deadline of Feb. 12. After the deadline requests will no longer be taken.
