CASPIAN  – The Iron County Historical & Museum Society (ICHMS) is hosting a Spring Cleaning Day at the Iron County Museum on April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. “We can all agree, our Iron County Museum is a gem! But even the rarest gem needs polishing now and then to maintain its luster,” comments Maggie Scheffer, Archives Admin and Volunteer Organizer.\

Community members are encouraged to create teams of two to five. “If folks can bring their own gloves, broom and dustpan, mop and bucket, we will provide all the rest,” states KL Long, Museum Director. “Please don’t bring your own cleaning chemicals though as many of our artifacts cannot be cleaned with chemicals.”

If you are more interested in helping out of doors, bring your gloves and rakes. Areas will be assigned that need leaf and debris cleanup.

Cleaning hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 - 3 p.m. with lunch being provided at noon in the Bernhardt Cultural Center. “We would love for folks to help with both the morning and the afternoon sessions, but we know not everyone can,” Long continues. “We’ll still provide lunch regardless. Just let us know you will be helping so we can get an accurate lunch count.”
Volunteers should meet in the Bernhardt Cultural Center at 9 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. to get their cleaning assignments. Children are encouraged to create a team and help, but supervision should be provided by parents or other appropriate, responsible adults.
Your help will assist in the preparations of buildings and exhibits for our annual Forest Park and West Iron Elementary School visits, beginning on April 30. “We look forward to providing all of this coming season’s visitors a positively “sparkling” experience at the Iron County Museum!” explains Scheffer.
