The Great Eight Winter Games, held Feb. 17 in Iron Mountain, are a collaboration of eight schools: Florence, Forest Park, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, North Dickinson, Norway and West Iron County. Students in grades four through eight from each school district can compete in a variety of events.

Several members of the Iron County Artemis Archers represented their schools in the games.

Some archers not only represented their schools, but also our 4H club – the Iron County Artemis Archers. They took the knowledge and skills that they learned in 4-H and implemented them at the games. Along with learning archery skills, they’ve learned safety as well as good sportsmanship. At the games, they were not only supportive of each other but celebrated each other’s accomplishments.

The archers included eighth-grader Harmony Scott (WIC), 2nd place; seventh-grader Zoey Brzoznowski (WIC), first place; fifth-graders Daemian Sanchez (WIC) and Bentley Szanto (FP), third and fifth place; and fourth-graders Ellie Brzoznowski (WIC) and Annabelle Gill (WIC), first and third place.

Artemis archery leader Barbara Luck said she loved seeing the youth’s smiling faces and that she was proud of all of her members. As a volunteer with the club, I too am proud of all the club members for supporting each other and cheering for each other.

Even though the youth may be competing individually, they still share a camaraderie with their other club members which is an important quality to instill in the youth of Iron County.

The Iron County Artemis Archers hope to continue bringing pride to the Iron County community.
